Contestants are being sought for the 2017 Miss Goldsboro and Miss Goldsboro Outstanding Teen pageant, planned for Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Paramount Theatre.

Executive Director Shirley Proctor said the pageant is open to ladies between the ages of 17 and 24 who reside or work in Wayne, Duplin, Greene, Harnett, Johnston, Lenoir, Pitt, Sampson, Wake or Wilson counties. Outstanding teen contestants must be between ages 13 and 16 and are eligible to compete in any of the 100 counties across the state, with certain age and residency requirements.

The Miss Goldsboro Scholarship Pageant is a preliminary to the Miss North Carolina Pageant and is part of the Miss America organization. In addition to scholarship money to further one's education, it also promotes poise, grace, intelligence and character, Mrs. Proctor said.

Miss Goldsboro 2017 receives a $1,000 cash scholarship. Miss Outstanding Teen receives a $250 cash scholarship.

The new title holder will represent Goldsboro and Wayne County throughout her reign through speaking engagements, community service projects, area events like the Fremont Daffodil Festival, North Carolina Pickle Festival, Downtown Lights up and area Christmas parades.

First rehearsal for the upcoming pageant will be Sunday, Oct. 9, at 1:30 p.m. at Acme Theatre, 111 S. Center St.
