Three young women from Goldsboro recently made their debut at the 90th annual North Carolina Debutante Ball in Raleigh.

The formal presentation of 190 young ladies from across the state highlighted last weekend's activities hosted by the Terpsichorean Club of Raleigh.

The Terpsichorean Club, made up of young men from the Raleigh area, was formed in the 1920s to sponsor an annual statewide Debutante Ball to present many of North Carolina's prominent young ladies and to honor their families. The ball has been held every year since 1923 with the exception of the World War II years.

Debutantes are chosen by more than 200 nominators from around the state. Final approval is made by Terpsichorean Club members.

Representing Wayne County this year were Caroline Minges Carlyle, Margaret Maxwell Tanner and Mary Crawford Tanner.

Miss Carlyle, 19, attended Arendell Parrott Academy, graduating in 2015.

She is currently a student at University of South Carolina in Columbia, majoring in physician assistant, specializing in pediatrics.

The daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Richard Todd Carlyle, her father was chief marshal.

Miss Carlyle is also a legacy. Her mother, Holly Minges Carlyle, was a 1994 debutante.

Margaret and Crawford, both 19, graduated from Wayne Country Day School in 2015. They are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Hal Hildreth Tanner III and granddaughters of Hal Tanner Jr. and the late Linda Tanner.

Their older sister, Georgia Tanner, was a debutante in 2011.

Margaret is a sophomore at Auburn University in pre-veterinary studies.

Crawford, a sophomore at Wake Forest University, is majoring in biology.

Their father was chief marshal for both young ladies.
