Man is charged in rape attempt

A 30-year-old Kenly man was charged Tuesday with attempted second-degree forcible rape and kidnapping.
Aaron Blake Mills, 30, of 103 Hooks Glen Drive, Kenly, was arrested and charged for allegedly picking a girl up on the side of the road on Aug. 20, taking her to a secluded area and attempting to rape her.
According to a press release from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, the victim was walking down N.C. 581 and NorAm Road around 10:30 a.m. Aug. 20 when Mills reportedly stopped and offered assistance.
Mills reportedly let the victim use his phone to contact someone to pick her up, and the told the victim he would take her to a safe location.
The release says Mills then took the victim to a remote area near where he picked the victim up.
When they arrived, Mills then allegedly physically assaulted the victim and then attempted to sexually assault her.
The release says the victim managed to talk Mills out of raping her.
Mills then reportedly let the victim go.
Mills is a registered sex offender and did not know the victim. According to the release, Mills gave the victim a fake name. Mills was given a $300,000 secured bond.
