There were three wrecks within four hours on Berkeley Boulevard Tuesday afternoon from just after 1 p.m. to just before 5 p.m.
The first wreck occurred in front of McDonald's and involved three cars.
A woman was taken to the hospital and traffic was backed up on Berkeley Boulevard after the woman's car was struck from behind by another vehicle before colliding with a third vehicle in front of McDonald's on Berkeley Boulevard just after 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Goldsboro police officer Matthew Habermas said that the woman who was initially struck from behind, Laura Scrogham, was driving north near the intersection of Graves Drive and Berkeley Boulevard in a green GMC Sierra when the vehicle in front of her stopped to let someone cross the road.
Habermas said that Ms. Scrogham stopped short to avoid the other vehicle, at which point a black GMC Sierra, driven by Troy Mitchell, hit her from behind.
He said that Ms. Scrogham's car was thrown forward, jumping the curb and colliding with the front left corner of a blue Toyota Celica parked in the McDonald's parking lot.
Ms. Scrogham was alert and responsive after the collision, as was her 4-year-old son who was in the car with her. She was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital for further medical care.
A woman had to be rescued from the second wreck, which occurred at Rite Aid near the intersection of East Ash Street and Berkeley Boulevard just after 2:30 p.m.
The Goldsboro Fire Department used the jaws of life to pull the woman from her car.
Cpl. D. Fleming with the Goldsboro Police Department said the woman was driving a black Mazda Miata when she pulled out of the Rite Aid parking lot to turn left in front of a man driving a gray Mazda 6 east on Ash.
The man driving the gray Mazda 6, Michael Edward Walczak, told police the woman driving the Miata, Jacquelyn Marie Farmer, pulled out in front of him and he had no time to react.
Walczak collided with the drivers side of Farmer's car.
Farmer told police she looked both ways before turning left out of Rite Aid onto East Ash Street, and believed she was clear both ways, but when she pulled out she was struck by Walczak.
Fleming said Farmer was taken to the Wayne Memorial Hospital.
The third wreck happened just before 5 p.m. in front of Sonic on Berkeley Boulevard. A white Mazda 5 t-boned a black Pontiac G6 that was turning off of Berkeley Boulevard into Sonic.
Officer Joseph Legg said there were four people in the white Mazda at the time of the wreck, including the driver.
The driver of the whit Mazda, Patrick Lamb, was taken to the hospital for treatment. The black Pontiac was driven by Linda McFarland.
Both cars were towed away from the scene.
