Wayne County Crime Stoppers will host its second annual Gospel Sing and Comedy Night this Friday at St. Paul United Methodist Church at 204 E. Chestnut St.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m., the show starts at 7 p.m., and the night will be filled with gospel songs and comedy skits.

The event will be emceed by the reverend of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Jim Harry.

Harry will also be singing Friday night with a quartet from St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Legacy Southern Gospel group will also perform during the event.

Wayne County Sheriff's Office chaplain Freddie Pierce will also perform ventriloquist humor at the event, using his ventriloquist dummies "Deacon Earl" and "Earl's Wife Eunice."

Casey Sutton, the daughter of Wayne County Crime Stoppers Director Rick Sutton, will also sing at the event Friday night.

The event is free to attend, but there will be a love offering taken for donations toward Crime Stoppers.

"It's all about raising money for Crime Stoppers," Sutton said. "The focus of the evening is to raise money for Crime Stoppers."

The idea to host a night of gospel singing and comedy came from a Crime Stoppers board member. The Crime Stoppers board consists of 18 members.

One of the board members, Franklin Lane, came up with the idea to host a gospel sing and comedy night.

Last year, Sutton said $3,121 was raised for Crime Stoppers.

"We do not have a goal in mind (for how much we'd like to raise this year), we'd just like to raise as much as we can for Crime Stoppers, because it's all about helping law enforcement solve crimes in Wayne County," Sutton said.

Crime Stoppers is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, funded solely by private donations.

Crime Stoppers is a way for citizens to anonymously tip off law enforcement about criminal activity, and there are three ways to do so.

You can call Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255, text at 919-222-4230, or you can provide an anonymous tip through TipSoft, a new technology being implemented by Crime Stoppers, at http://www.tipsoft.com/index.aspx?P=WebTips.

Callers providing tips will remain anonymous and if your information leads to a felony arrest you will be given a cash reward for the information. Crime Stoppers gives cash rewards of up to $1,000 for information leading to felony arrests.

To make a donation if you do not attend the event, contact Crime Stoppers Director Rick Sutton at 919-734-8177.
