Catherine Canady Parker celebrates 100 years

Catherine Canady Parker will observe her 100th birthday on Friday.
She was honored this past Sunday with a party at the home of her son Jim and his wife Mary Ann.
Mrs. Parker is in good health and is enjoying life at Brookdale assisted living on Berkeley Boulevard.
She still retains her sense of humor. At her 95th birthday party, family members put "Save the Date" on the invitations, referring to her 100th birthday. One friend told her he hoped to see her in five years. She replied, "You just take care of yourself and maybe you'll be there."
Mrs. Parker was married to former district attorney Ogden Parker for 53 years. He died in 1996. Mrs. Parker remained active into her early 90s, still seeing to her business interests.
She is the daughter of the late James Herman Canady and Emily Humphries Pollock Canady. She grew up in Kinston and attended Meredith College, graduating in 1937.
She has four children: sons Odgen Parker Jr. of Raleigh, John Parker and Jim Parker, certified public accountants in Goldsboro, and a daughter, Agnes Parker Woltz of Mount Airy. She also has eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
