Police are investigating several leads in the July 22 murder of 19-year-old Atiya Tijonna Maddox, but new developments in the case are scant.
Maj. Anthony Carmon, head of the Goldsboro Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division, said several people have come forward and spoken with police willingly about the murder.
"We're following up on some leads," Carmon said.
Carmon said police are now unclear on whether or not an initial report given to police of Ms. Maddox being killed during a shoot-out between the occupants of two cars is entirely true.
"We still haven't nailed down definitively that two cars were involved," Carmon said. "It was one of the first things told to us. We are not departing from that (theory) yet."
Carmon said the police department is having trouble identifying potential witnesses to the incident.
But there were eyewitnesses to the moment when Ms. Maddox arrived at the hospital after she was fatally shot.
Ms. Maddox was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle, and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities believe that Ms. Maddox was taken to the hospital in the same vehicle in which she was shot.
Carmon said there is also video footage of Ms. Maddox arriving at Wayne Memorial Hospital but police have not obtained that footage yet.
"We coordinated with the hospital police, and they said they have footage of her coming up and it will be made available when we supply a search warrant," Carmon said. "The reason we've not gotten that footage yet is because we had eyewitnesses of her coming to the hospital."
Ms. Maddox was reportedly shot at the intersection of Olivia Lane and Slaughter Street.
No arrests have been made in the case.
