A man was arrested at a traffic checkpoint early Tuesday morning when multiple weapons and an open container were found inside his car.

Nicholas Keith Potter, 18, of 694 Country Club Road, Mount Olive, was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction, provisional driving while impaired and having an open container after deputies conducting a traffic check point reportedly spotted an open container in the floorboard of the car driven by Potter and searched the vehicle.

The checkpoint was at the intersection of George Street and Wayne Avenue. When Potter stepped out of the 1994 Chevrolet S-10 he was reportedly driving, deputies also allegedly spotted a sawed-off shotgun sticking out from underneath the driver's seat.

According to a report on the incident, all the passengers in the vehicle were also removed from the car and put in handcuffs.

During the search, deputies not only found the Revelation .410 21-inch sawed-off shotgun, but also reportedly found a Glock 42 handgun with six bullets in the magazine and an AK-47 with wood grips with three bullets in the magazine. Deputies also found a black ski mask with a camouflage Christmas hat. The camouflage hat reportedly had eye holes cut into it.

Potter was placed under a $15,500 secured bond and confined in the Wayne County Jail.
