A fundraiser will be held this weekend for a food pantry in the Grantham community.

Dollar General in Grantham is hosting the event July 30 and 31 to benefit the "Make a Difference" food pantry. The store is located at 3334 U.S. 13 South.

Mackenzie Hinson is the 12-year-old owner of Make a Difference food pantry, which serves more than 1,100 people every month. She also serves 49 senior citizens with her mobile pantry on Fridays.

This summer, Miss Hinson added Kenzie's Cafe Summer Kids Feed Program, serving meals to more than 170 children every Friday. The effort is made possible through the support of Salvation Army's kitchen and its employees. She also sends home a bag of food for the children over the weekend.

Dollar General is partnering with Miss Hinson to collect items for the food pantry and school supplies.

The public is invited to the community weekend, which will feature games, food, a bouncy house and a dunk tank on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and Sunday from noon until 5 p.m.

There will also be a cornhole tournament on Sunday, organizers said.

All games will be free with five donated items for the cause -- including canned foods, non-perishables or school supplies. The dunk tank will cost $1 for six balls.

There will also be a water balloon toss, hula hoop competition, pick-a-duck-chalk drawing contest and more.

Hot dogs and cotton candy will also be available for a monetary, food or school supply donation.

Raffle tickets will be sold for $1 each, for prizes of a grill basket and a beach basket. The drawing will be Sunday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. Winners do not need to be present.

The cornhole tournament on Sunday kicks off at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $20 per team if pre-registered, or $25 the day of the event. Registration can be done in advance before noon Saturday. Winners of the tournament will receive $50 and a $50 Dollar General gift card.

Volunteers are also welcome. For more information, visit the store at 3334 U.S. Hwy. 13 South, or call 919-289-4497, or Brooke at 919-222-3657 or Kaitlin, 919-222-4398.
