Counterfeit charges filed

A man was arrested in Durham Wednesday on allegations of making a string of purchases in Wayne County with counterfeit $100 bills over the course of three days in December 2015.
Reginald James Cobb II, of 21 Scarlett Oak Court, Durham, was arrested and charged with four counts felony obtaining property by false pretense, four counts felony possession of a counterfeit instrument and four counts felony uttering a forged instrument.
According to a press release from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, the purchases using counterfeit $100 bills were made on Dec. 15 and 17, 2015, at the Family Dollar Store at 102 Five Points Road, again on Dec. 17, 2015, at the Food Lion at 118 Five Points Road and again on Dec. 18, 2015, at the Dollar General at 100 Genoa Crossing.
In all, Cobb allegedly used eight counterfeit $100 bills over the course of the various purchases made at the stores.
Detective Anthony Mullis with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office investigated the case after the stores affected by the counterfeit purchases notified law enforcement.
Warrants were issued for Cobb's arrest on Dec. 31, 2015.
Cobb was placed in the Wayne County Detention Center following his arrest on Tuesday under a $10,000 secured bond.
