Emergency personnel wrap up operations Monday after responding to a two-vehicle wreck on N.C. 581 near the intersection with Nor-Am Road. A woman in a Chevrolet Astro, left, and a man in a Dodge Journey were taken from the scene in ambulances. No other people were involved.

A man and a woman were injured in what might have been a head-on collision at the intersection of N.C. 581 and Nor-Am Road Monday afternoon.

Officer Adam Hotinsky of the state Highway Patrol said that at 3:54 p.m. he received a call about a wreck involving a red Dodge Journey and a blue Chevy Astro.

He said that, upon arriving, responders found that the woman driving the Astro was pinned in to the vehicle. They were able to free her by peeling back the dash and roof of the vehicle.

The Highway Patrol and members of the Rosewood, Little River, and Nahunta volunteer fire departments responded. N.C. 581 was blocked off just past the intersection, and traffic was diverted down Nor-Am Road.

Hotinsky said that both drivers were conscious when responders arrived. Both were transported to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The drivers' names were not available as of press time.
