Goldsboro resident Sherry Conrad Frye will have a photography exhibit "Spring Blooms" during May at the Zebulon town hall.

The exhibit hangs downstairs in town hall on both sides of the main lobby.

The exhibit contains photos of many types of blooming flowers that can be found throughout Wayne County and eastern North Carolina.

"I have found the variety of flowers available in these areas to be quite interesting with many textures, smells, colors and blooming times throughout the day and evening," Mrs. Frye said. "Several people have commented and can't believe that I haven't used computer enhancements or expensive equipment, but it's true. My only technique is cropping. I believe that a good photographic image can convey the subject without the need for computer adjustments.

"I like to think that I've been able to capture nature's beauty without changing it in any way. I also hope this inspires other photographers to take up the hobby and share their art without having to invest a fortune in cameras or computers."

Mrs. Frye's love of photography began while she was attending Appalachian State University with basic photography courses and darkroom techniques.

She also does other forms of art, including handpainting furniture, glass and T-Shirts and cross-stitch, latch hook and handmade stockings.

Mrs. Frye has won several ribbons at the state fair and county fair. She had her first solo photography exhibit in Garner in 2010. She's had exhibits in Holly Springs, Raleigh, Clayton, Knightdale and Washington.

The exhibit can be viewed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
