Princeton will hold its sixth annual Community Day at Princeton Elementary School this Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The event, sponsored by the Princeton Police Department, the Princeton Chamber of Commerce, the Partnership for Children of Johnston County and Safe Kids of Johnston County, is a way for the community to enjoy a fun-filled day and educate the attendees on child safety.

"We partner with the Partnership for Children of Johnston County to bring awareness tot he community about child safety, because every year about 200 children die from accidental injuries and another 45,000 visit a doctor's office for treatment of accidental injuries," said Princeton Police Chief Tyrone Sutton.

Sutton said the event started in parking lots of retail stores as a way for families to get their child safety car seats checked. The community day event is a way to provide families with activities to do while they wait to get their car seats inspected.

"Parents and guardians were waiting to get their baby seats checked with nothing to do, so we started something around that while they wait to get their car seats checked because a lot of these stations are just checking stations for the seats," Sutton said. "This gives you the opportunity to do something and have activities while you wait."

There will be many activities available for families wanting to attend Princeton's community day.

There will be food trucks, live music, inflatables for children, helicopters, emergency response vehicles, dump trucks, restored military vehicles, a North Carolina Highway Patrol driving simulator, miniature horses, representatives from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, the United States Navy and the United States Marines, a Huey helicopter from the Vietnam War and more.

Admission to the event is free. The address is 650 Holts Pond Road, Princeton.

"This event gives us a fun-filled family day in Princeton," Sutton said.
