MOUNT OLIVE -- Wayne County Sheriff's deputies are in search of a man wanted for a murder that took place Saturday on Zion Church Road about 1 p.m.
Maj. Tom Effler of the Sheriff's Office said lawmen are in search of Omar Acuna Fajardo, a Hispanic man, age unknown, who was last seen leaving 271 Zion Church Road in a tan colored pickup with large chrome wheels.
Fajardo is wanted in the murder of David Vasquez, 47, who was found shot to death in the back yard of the residence.
Fajardo is 32 years old, 5-feet-6 inches tall and weighs 250 pounds. He is confined to a wheelchair.
His last known address is located on N.C. 403 West near Faison.
Effler said the public should consider Fajardo armed and dangerous and should not approach him, but notify authorities if he is seen.
"We are seeking a warrant for him for murder at this time," Effler said late Saturday afternoon.
Effler added that the suspect also goes by the nickname "Twin."
The major said dispatcher received a call shortly before 1 p.m., notifying authorities of a shooting at the residence, which is located within a mile of the Duplin County line, several miles east of the town of Mount Olive.
Effler decline to say where the fatal wounds were or what type of weapon was used. But he did say that there were witnesses to the shooting who were providing information that should prove helpful in the investigation.
He said investigators had discovered what they believe to be a motive for the shooting but were not releasing that information at this time, either.
