Wayne County Public Schools recognizes MODEL educators

Wayne County Public Schools recognized 41 MODEL Educators this week for efforts to enhance the quality of education for students.
The MODEL Educator program was introduced in 2012 to recognize exemplary educators, be they classroom teachers, media coordinators or school counselors.
The program name is an acronym that embodies five areas -- master educator, obligation to a respectful learning environment, demonstrates leadership, effective instructor and lifelong learner.
"Employees who regularly demonstrate these characteristics and educational practices can apply themselves or be nominated by their peers to become a MODEL Educator," said Dr. Michael Dunsmore, schools superintendent, who announced this year's group of recipients at Monday night's school board meeting. "Letters of support must be provided by a peer and administrator endorsing that the criteria of a MODEL Educator is consistently demonstrated in the classroom."
He congratulated the 41 educators, representing 23 schools in the county, for exemplifying the "very best in teaching practices" and being an example for educators across the district.

*Eastern Wayne and North Drive elementary schools -- Nicoleta Martinez
*Eastern Wayne Middle -- Bethany Vargas
*Edgewood Community Developmental School -- Belinda Jones-Moye
*Fremont STARS Elementary -- Carrie Croom-Vick
*Grantham Elementary -- Sherry Brock
*Greenwood Middle -- Veronica Smith and Gina Rikard
