A Goldsboro man was shot in Fairview Circle Thursday night after a man in an orange hoodie asked to borrow his lighter.
Kelvin Lance, of 902 B Fairview Circle, was standing outside of his residence when an unknown man approached him and asked to borrow his lighter.
When Lance reached for his lighter, the unknown man shot him in the torso area with a handgun and fled on foot away from the scene.
Lance ran inside his residence after being shot and told Shelby Sutton, who was inside his residence at the time of the incident, that he needed to be transported to the hospital.
Ms. Sutton took Lance to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries. Wayne Memorial Hospital personnel then called the Goldsboro Police Department and reported the incident.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and the unknown man who was last seen wearing an orange hoodie is wanted for charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or seriously injure.
Sgt. Jeremy Sutton with the Goldsboro Police Department said investigators currently believe that the shooting was an isolated incident and are still working to develop suspects in the shooting.
"We don't believe there was somebody out there just shooting," Sutton said. "We believe it was between him (Lance) and another person. Just a disagreement between two people."
Sutton said Lance is currently in stable condition.
