Event to benefit historic areas

Preservation North Carolina, the state's only private statewide historic preservation organization, will sponsor a presentation celebration Sunday in Goldsboro and eastern Johnston County.
Support of the event will benefit downtown Goldsboro's historic neighborhoods where Preservation North Carolina has been working in partnership with the city for more than a decade, organizers said.
A champagne brunch will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Atkinson-Smith House (1850), 8514 Brogden Road, Smithfield, between Smithfield and Goldsboro.
A historic downtown Goldsboro neighborhood tour will run from 1 to 5 p.m.
The tour will include the Paul Borden House (1920) that is under renovation for sale by Preservation North Carolina; Murray Borden House (1927); H. Fitzhugh Lee House (1922); F.K. Borden House (1883); Union Station (1907) that is currently under renovation; D.W. Davis House (1900); and the Stanton-Platt-Blalock House (1912) that is under renovation.
Dessert will be served from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Terrace Room, 104 S. Center St.
The cost is $40 person for the brunch, tour and dessert and $20 per person for the tour and dessert only.
The registration deadline is Wednesday and may be completed at www.PreservationNC.org.
Founded in 1939, Preservation North Carolina promotes and protects the buildings and landscapes of the state's diverse heritage.
The organization acquires endangered historic properties and then finds purchasers willing and able to rehabilitate them.
It also cares for several stewardship properties throughout the state.
