A Mount Olive man refused to hand over any valuables during an attempted robbery early Sunday morning.
One of two unknown suspects then shot him in the leg before fleeing the scene.
According to a Goldsboro police report, Steven Wayne Darden, 22, was walking in the 600 block of Olivia Lane at approximately 1:15 a.m. when two men approached him. The would-be robbers demanded Darden hand over his money, but he told them he didn't have any. The suspects then fired a single shot -- hitting Darden in the leg -- and took off running.
Darden managed to walk to a nearby residence and call for help. Police and Wayne County EMS responded, along with the Goldsboro Fire Department. Paramedics transported Darden to Wayne Memorial Hospital for treatment.
No suspect information is listed on the report.
