The center corridor of Berkeley Mall has been converted into an art gallery to showcase work from hundreds of local student artists.
The annual Wayne County Public Schools Art Exhibition is being held March 6-19. Students, grades K-12, from each of the district's 33 schools will display more than 1,100 exhibits in a multitude of art forms.
"Our art teachers are excited to display artwork from some of the most promising and creative art students in the district," states Kim Copeland, WCPS director specialist. "We would encourage the community to stop by during this exhibition and get a firsthand look at how innovative and talented our students are in the area of art expression."
District administrators state that art is an important aspect of a child's academic curriculum, and appreciate the Berkeley Mall for allowing students to present their work to the public.
"This event is an opportunity for our district to showcase the talents, skills and abilities of our students in the area of art," states Dr. Michael Dunsmore, WCPS superintendent. "As those who stop by the exhibition will quickly find, our schools have some exceptional student artists. I would be remiss if I did not thank our art teachers for helping set up this two- week exhibition and for their daily efforts to help cultivate students' art skills through high quality instruction and project engagement."
