A storage shed broken into on the property of Lane Tree Golf Course has investigators working to track down several pieces of stolen lawn care equipment.

In the golf course's favor, however, is the fact the serial number of each piece of equipment had been recorded and kept on file.

The break-in took place sometime between 9 a.m. Sunday and 6:45 a.m. Monday on the golf course property at 2317 Salem Church Road.

Among the items taken were Stihl, Echo and John Deere brand lawn care items such as weedeaters, chain saws, trimmers and blowers. The total value of the stolen property listed on the Goldsboro police report amounts to $4,500.

Maj. Anthony Carmon said the fact the serial numbers of the stolen items were catalogued would make it easier to recover the items should they be located or if the suspects try to sell them.

"Serial numbers and owner-applied unique numbers help when the property is located," he said.

"Or if they try to sell the items at a pawn shop or at Trade-It or places like that," he said.

No suspect information is listed on the report. The employee that reported the break-in said the shed was locked the morning before and when he came to work the next day the roll-up door was open.

Anyone with information regarding this or any other crime is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255 or text tips to 919-222-4230. Callers can remain anonymous and tips leading to a felony arrest are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
