Mrs. Burden was appointed to the school board in May of 2014 to complete the term of the late Thelma Smith. She is the former principal of Goldsboro High School.

Candidates for district, statewide and national offices file at the state Board of Elections office in Raleigh. Legislative candidates file in their home counties.

The filing period ends Monday at noon.

The primary, including the presidential preference primary, will be held March 15 and the general election on Nov. 8.
