Kinetic Minds 21 Century Community Learning Center was recently awarded The Walking Classroom Kits valued at $3,100. The award-winning kit includes 30 MP3 players preloaded with over 100 podcast lessons on topics from science to literature. Students listen to lessons on individual headsets while taking walks in groups with their tutors. The Common Core standards aligned lessons give students the opportunity to combine physical activity and learning.
"The Walking Classroom helps stimulate our students "Kinetic" minds; nothing compares to active learning," said executive director Eskabonna Henderson. "The Downtown Streetscape Project has provided a great setting for our students as they start walks from our James Street location."
Kinetic Minds is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit founded by educators and a recipient of the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant. The organization provides afterschool tutoring and enrichment to kindergarten through eighth-grade students at no cost to parents.
