A loss prevention employee is recovering after he was struck in the head with what might have been a revolver during a shoplifting incident at the Walmart on North Spence Avenue Saturday.
The incident took place at about 2:15 p.m.
Robert Radford III, 24, told police he was watching the store's security camera feed and witnessed two black teens take a $5 pair of scissors, a $39 charger and a $20 video game and attempt to leave without paying.
Radford confronted the two suspects who then took off running. One of the suspects stopped in the parking lot and struck Radford in the head with what Radford described as a "black revolver type handgun," according to the police report.
Wayne County EMS responded and transported Radford to Wayne Memorial Hospital with a facial laceration.
"He was treated and released," Maj. Anthony Carmon said.
One of the suspects was identified as Antonio Gray, 17, of 913 Prince Ave. Carmon said the second suspect has yet to be identified.
"We're still working on that," he said.
He is described as a black male, 5 foot 7 inches tall, weighing approximately 200 pounds. Anyone with information regarding his identity or whereabouts is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 919-735-2255 or text tips to 919-222-4230.
