The National Weather Service in Raleigh forecasts additional wind and rain for Goldsboro and Wayne County today, but road closures or river flooding should not become problems.

Approximately 4 to 5 inches of rain has fallen across Wayne County since Thursday and Friday last week, meteorologist Keith Sherburn said.

"We expect the winds should stay up for the majority of the afternoon and then gradually dissipate," Sherburn said. "And there is a band of showers toward the coast that is moving north and should be up around the Goldsboro area this afternoon."

That band of weather should produce a few hours of light rain and then move off toward the east, Sherburn said.

The N.C. Department of Transportation met this morning to discuss potential threats to areas in Wayne County due to the amount of rainfall received over the last week. Wayne County is no longer under any advisories or direct threats, NCDOT communications officer Jennifer Heiss said.

"We're past the worst of it," she said, "We never had any road closures. We did have a few tree limbs come down, and we have crews out who are working to clear those up," Mrs. Heiss added.

She said she spoke with the Wayne County maintenance engineer about the potential for flooding and determined there is no threat. Should that change, however, NCDOT has contingency plans in place to address emergency road or bridge closings.

"If we do have road closures or have to reroute (traffic) from bridges, we will work with local law enforcement to do that."

In Goldsboro, Public Works director Jose Martinez said the only road closed due to weather has been Grantham Street between Center and John streets.

"But that opened back last night or today," he said.

"Other than that we haven't had anything (closed) as far as emergency services," Martinez said.
