A Wayne County Public Schools bus came in contact with a live power line this morning after picking up students along Green Drive in Goldsboro.

Bus No. 513 was carrying 10 students bound for Tommy's Road Elementary School at the time of the incident. No injuries were reported.

"The school bus was on its morning route, ran under a low-hanging power line," Goldsboro Fire Department Assistant Chief James Farfour said.

The incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. Firefighters got to the scene and found the power line still on top of the bus.

"When my guys arrived on scene, it was at the very back of the bus with about 2 to 3 more feet to go," he said.

Because none of the students were injured, the firefighters determined they could safely move the bus out from under the power line rather than attempt to unload the children and to put them on another bus.

"They just drove it out from under the wire," Farfour said.

Wayne County Public Schools communications director Ken Derksen said the bus was delayed, but the students arrived safely at school.
