Carlos Demoris Darden
A Goldsboro man was shot to death Wednesday afternoon, and a 40-year-old faces a felony murder charge in connection to his death.
Carlos Demoris Darden, of 208 Alpha Court Apt. A, was arrested by Goldsboro police officers just after 9:30 p.m. -- some six hours after Perez Donovan McDuffie was found face down in a grassy area near Darden's residence.
McDuffie suffered from multiple gunshot wounds to the left side of his torso, left hand and right hand.
McDuffie would not say who shot him when asked by officers, and was taken by Wayne County EMS to Wayne Memorial Hospital where he later died. He was 28 years old.
GPD Maj. Anthony Carmon said this morning that he could not release the details of what led to Darden's arrest for the murder, but did say investigators had "significant community involvement" as they pursued the shooter.
He also said he could not divulge any information on a possible motive for the crime.
Carmon said he could not say whether or not the location of some of McDuffie's wounds -- particularly those to the left and right hands -- were significant, or whether they showed signs of self-defense.
Both Darden and McDuffie were, before the shooting, known to police and had criminal records. The men also knew each other, and the murder was not a random act, Carmon said.
Darden also received medical care Wednesday -- for injuries he claimed he sustained in a traffic incident unrelated to the shooting. He was then charged with felony murder and placed in the Wayne County Jail.
No bond was listed on the report and Darden is scheduled to appear in Wayne County District Court today.
Wednesday's incident marks the third fatal shooting in Goldsboro since Aug. 8. Two murders were reported on that day.
The first occurred at 2:45 a.m. near the intersection of Wayne Memorial Drive and Royall Avenue, when a vehicle with two occupants was struck by gunfire, killing the driver and critically injuring the passenger.
The second happened at 3:41 p.m. in front of Donel's Express Mart at 508 E. Elm St.
The victim -- 17-year-old Jerome Lavelle Barnes -- was critically wounded and rushed to the hospital in a private vehicle, where he later died.
