Ballots are set for municipal elections

A flurry of last-minute filings Friday morning has ensured there are candidates for all six district seats on the Goldsboro City Council and created a four-candidate field for the office of mayor.
When the final day of filing started Friday, no one had filed for the District 3 and District 5 seats.
But before filing ended at noon, David Ham of 705 Park Ave. had filed for District 5, and Mark A. Stevens of 100 N. Herman St. and Van Arthur Anderson of 408. S. William St. filed for District 3.
District 5 Council member Chuck Allen of 810 Park Ave. is running for mayor.
District 3 Councilman William Goodman did not file for re-election.
Myelle Torik Thompson of 502 N. Hillcrest Drive created the four-way race for the mayor's office when he filed Friday.
D.A. Stuart of 408 S. William St. and Henry G. Jinnette of 512 N. Jackson Street have filed for the mayor's office as well.
Mayor Al King did not seek re-election.
Four candidates for mayor have ensured an Oct. 6 primary for that office as well as for District 4.
Running in District 4 are Councilman Charles J. Williams Sr. of 1406 S. Slocumb St., Tondalayo Alicia Clark of 704 S. Taylor St. and Bevan J. Foster of 1502 S. Slocumb St.
In the primary, voters will pick their top two choices in each race to run in the Nov. 3 general election.
Candidates in the other districts are:
* District 1: Councilman Michael Headen of 201 S. Virginia St. and Antonio Marculas Williams of 143 N. Center St.
* District 2: Councilman Bill Broadaway of 1903 E. Walnut St. and Troy Lewis Mitchell of 1806 E. Ash St.
* District 6: Councilman Gene Aycock of 319 Bayleaf Drive and Linda Lamm Harper of 210 Bayleaf Drive.
In Mount Olive, Mayor Ray McDonald Sr. filed for re-election. He is unopposed.
Kenny Talton is unopposed in District 1 as is District 4 Commissioner Joe Scott.
Former commissioner Tom Preston is the only candidate in District 3.
At-large Commissioner Ray Thompson is opposed by Jerry L. Harper.
District 2 Commissioner Jerry Armstrong did not seek re-election. Running instead are Danny King and Harlie Carmichael Jr.
Fremont Mayor Darron Flowers is being challenged by Keith L. Spivey.
Alderman Al Lewis, District 1; Leon Mooring, District 2; W.T. Smith, District 3; Joyce C. Reid, District 5; and Annie Lewis, District 6, are all unopposed.
District 4 Alderman Harold Cuddington is facing a challenge from Joyce Monica Artis.
Candidates for the at-large Pikeville board seats are incumbents Charles Hooks III, Robert Hooks and Steve West. Lyman Goodwin Galloway is running to fill an unexpired term on the board.
Stephen Potter, who was on the town board, filed for mayor of Seven Springs. Mayor Alan Cash did not file. Karla Griffin filed for re-election to the board.
Board member Danny Carter did not file.
Carter and Potter's seats would be filled by write-in candidates.
Incumbents Danny Jackson and Greg Ricker filed for the Walnut Creek Town Council. Also filing was Cyndi Fallin Dupuy.
David "Stoney" Sloan did not file.
Filing for sanitary districts were:
* Fork Township: Two seats now held by Andy G. Hartley and David B. Jackson, who filed for re-election, and Russell Lee Wiggins, Jane Lee Williford, Sherwood E. Daly and Beverly Perkins Keen.
* Northwestern: Five seats. Incumbents Walter Fred Bridgers, James S. Kirby David Pittman and Danny Tillman filed for re-election. Bill Lynch Jr. did not file for re-election.
* Southern Wayne: Three seats. Filing were incumbent Marty Shaw and Scott T. Ingram, Jesse Jernigan, Kevin Jones and Efton Sager. Incumbents Billy Brock and Bill Harrell did not seek re-election.
* Southwestern Wayne: Five seats. Filing were incumbents David A. Bennett, Jimmy B. Cox, Alan Lumpkin, Ruby Gail Minchew and Daryll E. Overton.
