A five-month drug investigation conducted by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and N.C. State Bureau of Investigation culminated in two arrests Saturday.
Both suspects were arrested in Duplin County.
Randee Kornegay Walker, 42, and Michael Daniel Lanier, 32, were arrested at their shared home at about 11 p.m. Saturday, Maj. Tom Effler said.
"I can't say if they were boyfriend and girlfriend. They might have just been roommates," he said.
Both Lanier and Ms. Walker are charged with two counts of Level 1 trafficking in opiates, possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, felony maintaining a dwelling for the sale of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Lanier also faces a separate charge of sale and delivery of a controlled substance. His bond is set at $1,018,000 secured, and Ms. Walker's bond is set at $1,000,800 secured. Both are being held in the Wayne County Detention Center and are scheduled for a first appearance in Wayne County District Court later today.
Members of the sheriff's office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team, along with patrol shift deputies and SBI agents spent the last five months conducting and recording controlled purchases from the suspects, Effler said.
The Duplin County Sheriff's Office assisted by arresting both suspects at their home Saturday. More than 24 grams of methamphetamine and more than 8 grams of opiates were seized during the course of the investigation, according to a press release.
