Duplin Democrats hold convention

KENANSVILLE -- More than 100 people attended the Duplin County Democratic Party's annual county convention at the Duplin County Courthouse April 16.
Chairman Dr. Mott Blair called the convention to order and the invocation was given by Sheriff Blake Wallace followed by the pledge of allegiance by Francisco Diaz.
Delegates were then provided entertainment by Penny Kornegay and former state Sen. Charlie Albertson who sang "God Bless America."
Linda Coleman, candidate for lieutenant governor, was the keynote speaker.
Ms. Coleman condemned the North Carolina General Assembly and the governor for their reckless and poor public policy legislation.
"It was time for a different approach," Ms. Coleman said.
Blair was honored for his six years as party chairman. Sandra Farrior was also honored for her service to the Duplin Democratic Party.
In addition the new county executive committee was elected. Officers are Rebecca Judge of Beulaville, chairman; Armin Jancis of Warsaw, first vice chairman; Penny Kornegay of Glisson, second vice chairman; Brenda Rivas-Diaz of Wallace, third vice chairman; Christine Davis of Beulaville, secretary; and Cora Jones of Kenansville, treasurer.
