Wayne Memorial Hospital is hosting a free event next week promoting living healthier.

"Eat, Move, Live Well" is the theme of the March 31 event that will include a healthy cooking demonstration by one of Wayne Memorial Hospital's registered dietitians and a panel discussion featuring local physicians and individuals who have changed their lives with diet and exercise.

More than 125 people have already registered to attend the event, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the hospital dining room.

Dr. Katherine MacDonald, pediatrician with Goldsboro Orthopedics, and Dr. Greg Nichols, of Goldsboro Ob-Gyn, will lead the discussion from a physician's point of view as well as exercise enthusiasts. Both are runners and have participated in triathlons. Their goal, though, is to convey the importance of getting regular exercise and share ways to safely get started or move to the next level.

Registered dietitian Barb Listenfelt will discuss the importance of proper nutrition, and Jennifer Perkins and Ron Kendall will share their personal journeys on the road to fitness. Scott Barnard, Director of Goldsboro Parks and Recreation, will close the panel discussion with an update on programs, events and activities his department sponsors. He will also recommend local places where people can get involved in exercise individually or as part of a group.

There will be an opportunity for audience questions.

Also during the event, health professionals from the hospital's Health Promotion Department and Wayne Health Medical Clinic will offer body composition analyses and blood pressure screenings.

Alana Cockrell, Amazing Grace Personal Fitness, will lead chair yoga, and activities such as pickleball and Wii Sports will be available for attendees to try.

The public is invited to attend the program, part of Wayne Memorial Hospital's LiveWell Community Education Series. Space is limited and advance registration is required.
