A case valued at $1,000 and another worth four times as much were allegedly "smuggled" out of a Dudley man's home, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's report.
Michael Patrick McKay, 51, of Lake Avenue, told deputies he allowed a displaced couple to stay in his home for a few nights. One evening, the female began crying.
According to the report, Sandra Michele Williams, 34, told McKay that Michael Butts, 34, had been removing property from McKay's home. McKay immediately asked the couple to leave and began checking his home for items missing. The two items McKay reported stolen are a sterling silver vase valued at $1,000, and a Noriki vase valued at $4,000. Several boxes in a spare bedroom that had been left sealed were found open and rummaged through, the report said.
McKay told investigators he believes the vases were "smuggled out in laundry bags," the report said.
