Construction of several new businesses in Goldsboro is nearing completion, with Dick's Sporting Goods set to open by the end of January, city building codes inspector Allen Anderson says.
The store will be located just south of Berkeley Mall.
And a Pet Smart store will be built directly next to Dick's, although no opening date for that project has been confirmed.
Several other construction projects around the city are either just beginning or nearing an end.
A new branch of The Little Bank is scheduled to open on East Ash Street in the coming months, and the company has announced its Center Street location will be closing effective Feb. 16.
Roy Parker III, city executive of The Little Bank, said the new building at 2406 E. Ash St. will offer customers a larger and more convenient location.
"We've been here at this location for almost 15 years, and we've been a proud supporter of downtown and Downtown Goldsboro Development Corp. during that time," Parker said. "But the bank has been growing over the past five or six years, and we've just outgrown our current location."
The new location will provide access to all banking services, including a drive-up automatic teller machine, which is not currently available at the Center Street building.
Parker said the staff will move into the new bank over Presidents Day weekend in February to prepare for its opening. All employees at the Center Street office will move to the new location on East Ash Street.
And that is just one of the projects on the city's main thoroughfare.
"We've had a lot going on over on Ash Street," Anderson said.
Other projects include a car wash being built beside the Lantern Inn at the corner of East Ash and Durant streets. No date has been set for its opening, Anderson said.
Other new projects around the city are also moving forward.
A Marriott Towneplace Suites is being built next to Ruby Tuesday restaurant and is expected to be completed by May.
Dunkin' Donuts will be coming to Goldsboro and will be located beside the Mattress Firm on Berkeley Boulevard. Site plans for the building were submitted to City Council on Dec. 1.
The former Taco Bell on East Ash Street was torn down in October. No word yet on any plans for that land.
Panera Bread's future site on Berkeley Boulevard broke ground Friday, Dec. 12, as footings were laid to begin construction. The same contractor is being used for both Panera Bread and the new Little Bank.
A car wash was recently torn down across from The Little Bank's new location on the opposite corner. A contract for the location is pending, but no details are available for release.
"There's nothing on that we can share right now," Anderson said.
