It's been more than three decades and the Boys & Girls Club is still flipping flapjacks to generate support for youth of Wayne County.
The annual Pancake Day will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, from 7 a.m. until noon at the Goldsboro unit on Royall Avenue. Board members and volunteers will be cooking up and serving pancakes and sausages.
This is the 36th year for the event, Development Director Jo Heidenreich said.
Tickets are $6 in advance and can be purchased from any board member or club staff at each of the three locations -- Goldsboro, Fremont and Mount Olive -- or $7 at the door.
Patrons can eat at the club or do take-out. Large orders can be accommodated by calling 919-735-2358 by Dec. 5. Proceeds support all programs offered by the area clubs, Mrs. Heidenreich said.
"Boys and Girls Clubs are a place for hundreds of children to come every day and learn how to succeed in life in a positive atmosphere," she said. "Founded in 1947, the organization is a non-profit, privately-funded 501(c) (3) and depends on donations and volunteers to accomplish its mission. The clubs serve over 1,700 youth annually throughout Wayne County." The annual fundraiser is historically held the first Saturday in December, which coincides with a number of area Christmas parades, she said.
"Pancake Day is a great time to enjoy breakfast, talk with friends and support Wayne County kids," she said. "Board members encourage ticket holders to come in and walk the halls that each club member walks each and every day. Enjoy a hot breakfast and then enjoy a day of shopping and Christmas parades."
