The Goldsboro Police Department is working to determine whether a string of shootings that began Tuesday afternoon and carried on through early this morning are connected.

The shootings spanned from East Ash Street to Wayne Memorial Drive to North William Street.

"We've assigned a couple of investigators to see if we can connect the dots," Maj. Al King said, adding that lawmen were not certain the shootings are all connected. "We're going to try to see if we can put the puzzle together."

The first shooting took place at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday at a barber shop on East Ash Street.

An unknown subject fired a bullet at the back door of the UpScale Barber Shop, located at 716 E. Ash St., with a .45 caliber firearm, according to a police report.

Upon hearing the shot, barber Timothy Moses went and retrieved a gun from his car to protect his customers and business. Investigators were unable to determine who fired the shot or why.

Roughly 12 hours later, police responding to a shots fired call at the Waffle House at 2000 Wayne Memorial Drive arrived in time to see customers running from the restaurant.

According to the report, bullets passed through two windows on the west side of the restaurant that face Wayne Memorial Drive.

A bullet fragment was found inside the business.

Witnesses said they were serving food when they heard several gunshots. Someone noticed the windows had been damaged and people began rushing to the exits.

The nearby McDonald's, located at 2002 Wayne Memorial Drive, was also hit.

No injuries were reported.

Then, at 4:20 a.m., a bullet passed through a residence at 2101 N. William St..

Lewis Haigler, 75, was in his bedroom when he heard the shots.

The bullet pierced his window and passed through several walls of his home. A set of mini blinds was also damaged.

The investigation is ongoing.
