A Dudley man is in the Wayne County Jail today after Goldsboro police officers on foot patrol near a local nightclub found him in possession of stolen property and a gun.

Charles Edward Smith, 28, of Fox Drive, is charged with carrying a concealed weapon, breaking and entering a motor vehicle and possession of stolen goods.

According to a press release, GPD officers heard a gunshot while patrolling the area around 2211 E. Ash St., a shopping center parking lot used as overflow parking for the local club, Camron's Clubhouse and Grille.

Police went behind the shopping center businesses and found Smith in possession of a ladies' purse and contents, as well as a handgun.

Smith allegedly entered an unlocked vehicle and removed items from inside while the car owner was inside the nightclub.

Police took Smith into custody and placed him in the Wayne County Jail under a $4,000 secured bond.
