Majesty Rose, ninth-place finisher in the recent season of "American Idol," made a recent appearance at Spring Creek Elementary School, where she was named "Principal for a Day."

When the "American Idol" tour wrapped in August, contestant Majesty Rose didn't just go back to her normal life in Goldsboro.

During her stint as part of the Season 13's Top 10, she used her time wisely -- making contacts, asking questions, picking up tips and ideas for how to build on her dream once the show ended.

"All that work, I didn't want it to be in vain," she said.

The transition from life on the road, trekking around the country on a tour bus and meeting adoring fans to being back in her hometown was in no way a letdown, she said.

"It wasn't hard for me," she said. "I don't care about being famous. That's not important to me.

"When I came home from fans screaming our names every day to normal life, it wasn't shocking to me."

The ninth-place finisher in the singing competition said she has enjoyed the freedom of writing and performing the varied styles of music she favors.

In the weeks since the show's summer tour ended, she has been making appearances around the community -- at Spring Creek Elementary School, where she was "principal for a day," visited every grade level and sang in the cafeteria, and recently performing at Wayne Opportunity Center's anniversary event.

She just got her first college gig, to perform at Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs on Nov. 15. She will be accompanied on the road by a half-dozen of her closest friends, with whom she played music in the past.

"I have all my friends. It's weird to say they're my band," she said. "Now we'll just go travel and play together."

It would be hard to categorize her genre of music, or narrow it down to just one. That was something the "American Idol" judges often attempted to do, in order to better understand the type of artist the contestants wanted to be.

"I think I just love, I love art and creativity, how I can express myself through music or the way I dress or the way I feel," she said. "And people can really feel it."

Those who knew her before the show may be more familiar with her background performing worship music. But that is not all she is capable of, or interested in doing, she says.

"Don't get my wrong, I'm going to always be a worship leader," she said. "I think I'm going to do things for people who don't know God."

Equally as important, she said, will be the subjects she chooses to sing about, more than a specific genre or style of music.

The 22-year-old has spent recent weeks writing songs for an upcoming album that will feature five selections that will help her audience get to know her better.

For the near future, performances will likely include full-length versions of songs she did on "American Idol" and during the tour, since that would be a familiar frame of reference for her fans. But she will also sing songs that she enjoys.

Social media will play a big part in the development of her career.

She has established a business e-mail, majestyrosemusic@gmail.com, and continues to have a Facebook page. She also has Instagram and Twitter accounts at #psmajestyrose.

And on Wednesday at noon, her YouTube Channel launches, at www.youtube.com/user/majestyrosemusic.

"I'm doing a whole cover series, #mrcoverproject," she said of the venture. "Songs that I like, songs from the show that I did, full-length versions."

The channel will not be limited to the musical element, though.

"I will probably do funny things," she said with a laugh. "I think people do need to get to know me. I'm a person and they can come to an understanding of me as an artist."
