MOUNT OLIVE -- The Mount Olive Police Department has identified a man killed early Sunday morning when he stepped into traffic on North Breazeale Avenue.
Stephen Franklin Parks, of 1405 E. Pine St., Goldsboro, died at the scene.
The incident took place at 5:32 a.m. in the 900 block of North Breazeale Avenue.
A 2002 Ford passenger car driven by Israel Castro, 34, of Dudley, struck and killed the victim when he stepped off the curb and into the street, Mount Olive police Chief Brian Rhodes said.
Rhodes said his office was able to identify the man after getting in touch with the Goldsboro Police Department.
The victim's wife, whose name was not released, happened to show up at the Goldsboro police station to report her husband missing, Capt. Tommy Brown said.
"She was actually at GPD saying she hadn't seen or heard from him. We put two and two together," he said.
Brown said the victim's wife made the official identification by photograph.
No charges will be filed.
