Wayne Memorial Hospital has been recognized by Premier Inc. with the QUEST Award, which acknowledges the facility for delivering high quality, cost-effective health care.

The hospital was honored during Premier's annual conference in June.

Premier is a leading health care improvement company, uniting an alliance of 3,000 hospitals in the U.S. The award is a performance improvement collaborative of about 350 hospitals across the country that is working to make health care safer, more efficient and consistently effective.

"Participation in this collaboration reinforces our commitment to deliver the best care experience to the community we serve," said Shirley Harkey, vice president of patient services and chief nursing officer at Wayne Memorial. "We're proud to receive this QUEST Award, and we will continuously strive to improve our patient outcomes."

Specifically, the hospital was recognized for reducing the average cost of care to less than $5,690 per discharge; for reliably delivering all evidence-based care measures to patients in the areas of heart attack heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care at least 95 percent of the time; for improving the patient experience, in which surveys show patients favorably rate their stay and would recommend the hospital to others; and for reducing preventable harm events.

"QUEST hospitals have a really fresh perspective on the state of health care today, which they're using to rethink the way care is provided and design innovative changes that impact our future," said Susan DeVore, president and CEO of Premier.

"It's no easy task for health systems to do this on their own, so they work together to capitalize on the power of information. Our vision is to outperform this industry together, on our own terms, which is exactly what Wayne Memorial Hospital is doing. We congratulate them for the fantastic achievements they've made."
