Just months after the first Sheetz fuel station opened in Goldsboro, work is set to begin on another station planned in the city limits.
The new Sheetz will be built on the southeast corner at the intersection of U.S. 70 and N.C. 581, Goldsboro Chief Building Inspector Allen Anderson Jr. said.
The location was approved in January, but no site plans were introduced for the project until this month.
The site will mirror the Spence Avenue location, which is also built on a corner lot, Anderson said.
"They will have plans approved the first of next week or the middle of next week," Anderson said. "Once they get those, they move pretty fast. They finished the other location in about 60 days, but I will give this 90 days to be on the safe side."
There is no time limit in which the project must be completed, but most businesses are eager to get to work, Anderson said.
Work has also begun on the Walmart neighborhood market under construction at the intersection of U.S. 70 and N.C. 111 South.
Site grading is under way at the location.
While the site plans have still not been approved due to a stormwater drainage issue, the developer does have grading permits on the site.
Anderson said he expects the plans to come through next week on the project.
Two other Walmart neighborhood markets are planned in the city, with one going in on U.S. 117 near Old Mount Olive Highway and the other being constructed at the corner of Wayne Memorial Drive and Tommy's Road.
The markets are much smaller than a traditional Walmart and carry only a selection of groceries and a few odds and ends.
As part of the project, both sites, which sat just outside Goldsboro's city limits, were annexed by the city and will be serviced by city water.
Work is nearing completion on the Dunham's Sports store set to open in the former Ashley's Furniture location this summer.
Grading work is also under way for the planned Dick's Sporting Goods next to Berkeley Mall, with space for a second store as well.
Work is also set to begin on a new State Employees Credit Union location on Cashwell Drive, with some preliminary site work already accomplished.
