A shots fired call in the area of Orange Street Tuesday at about 8:30 a.m. was elevated to a person shot while Goldsboro police officers were en route, according to a police report.
Once they arrived at the scene, however, officers were unable to locate a shooting victim.
Police continued to search the area and were told a subject had been seen running toward the Alpha Arms apartment complex.
Maj. Mike West of the Goldsboro Police Department Patrol Division said an apartment was searched but no gunman was found.
"The people in that apartment said they didn't know anything about it and said they hadn't seen anyone," he said.
A residence on nearby Eleventh Street was later found to have been struck by two bullets.
Jordan Hobbs, 22, of 500 Eleventh Street, said he was lying in bed and was awakened by gunfire and the sound of his bedroom window breaking.
One bullet passed through several walls of the residence, according to the report.
Police continued to search the area and checked with Wayne Memorial Hospital, but no shooting victim ever turned up.
The damage to Hobbs' home is valued on the report at $200.
