The GATEWAY board voted to officially move its director onto the GATEWAY payroll from the county, as well as giving her a raise at its meeting Wednesday.

Director Lynn Lamberth's salary was increased from $65,340.38 to $79,000 a year.

Under the old arrangement GATEWAY would reimburse the county of Wayne for Mrs. Lamberth's salary.

The move officially makes her a GATEWAY employee.

Goldsboro City Councilman Gene Aycock, who serves on the GATEWAY board, made the motion highlighting the $500,000 in savings for GATEWAY last year, attributed to Mrs. Lamberth's leadership over the system.

"I look forward to being a part of the GATEWAY family officially," Mrs. Lamberth said.

The raise and move of her salary to GATEWAY comes in the wake of Mrs. Lamberth's possible resignation in April.

She said she planned to resign in April to spend more time with her family but the board asked her to stay, Aycock said.

She has now said she officially that she is committed to staying.

"I have committed to my board that I plan to stay," she said. "I am going to continue to do what I have been to improve this program."

Mrs. Lamberth moved into the job 12 months ago to get the struggling system back on its feet.

Aycock said he believes Mrs. Lamberth has been invaluable to that goal.

"I don't want to think about where GATEWAY would be without Lynn," he said.
