Wayne County public school students began their summer break Tuesday as schools across the county let out early.

It was an emotional time for many, with students -- and teachers -- eagerly looking forward to vacation while at the same time expressing sadness at not being able to see familiar faces for several months.

Dillard Middle School is the only public school still in class. Due to make-up days, Dillard's year will end Friday with an early dismissal at 12:45 p.m.

Classes for all public schools will resume Aug. 25.
