Air Force names new 4th Fighter Wing commander

An F-15E pilot who learned how to command the Strike Eagle during his first of two stints at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base is returning to the Goldsboro installation to lead the 4th Fighter Wing.
And while no official date for the change of command has been set, Air Force officials said Col. Mark Slocum will likely take the 4th guidon from Col. Jeannie Leavitt in early June.
Slocum, a command pilot who has logged more than 2,600 flight hours in the F-15E, T-37, T-38, F-111 and EF-111, is currently the 48th Operations Group commander at Royal Air Force Lakenheath, one of the two main U.S. Air Force-operated in the United Kingdom.
He has earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and Bronze Star Medal and, from August 2007 to July 2008, was a speechwriter for the Secretary of the Air Force.
Slocumb last served as a member of the 4th from February 2003 to May 2005 where his duties included directing the Wings Over Wayne Air Show as the assistant director of operations for the 334th Fighter Squadron.
The colonel logged 925 combat hours over several operations, including Operations Deny Flight, Provide Comfort, Northern Watch, Southern Watch and Enduring Freedom.
