The 15th annual New Year's Eve Pickle Drop will usher in the New Year tonight at the corner of Cucumber and Vine streets at the Mt. Olive Pickle Co. R.L. Grady, a maintenance technician specialist at the plant, and Lynn Williams, company public relations manager, inspect the giant plastic pickle that will be lowered into the vintage wooden pickle vat behind them at 7 p.m. (midnight Greenwich Mean Time). The free event begins at 6 p.m. People are asked to bring canned food items for the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.
