The Goldsboro Police Department charged former Wayne School of Engineering teacher Benjamin Randall Strickland, 28, 110 N. John St. Apt. D, with one count of indecent liberties with a student.
Strickland, free on $2,000 unsecured bond, is scheduled for a first appearance in Wayne County Court Monday.
Wayne County Public Schools Communications Director Ken Derksen confirmed Friday that Strickland was employed, from August 2009 through Oct. 3, as an English teacher at Wayne School of Engineering.
"At no time was Mr. Strickland under investigation by the school system," Derksen said.
According to a press release issued by police, Strickland has been under investigation since November when a female student made "a disclosure of having a relationship with a teacher."
Court records indicate the relationship began Aug. 26 and carried on through Oct. 3, the same day Derksen said Strickland resigned.
The investigation is ongoing, according to the police department press release. Other allegations are being investigated.
