Special Olympics

Wayne County Special Olympics recently participated in the 2013 Special Olympics North Carolina Eastern Bocce Tournament in Wilson. The athletes competed in the tournament in singles, doubles and unified doubles competitions. All athletes and partners had to previously qualify in an early series of games in September. The team earned six medals and one ribbon during the day long event.
Jonathan Delano took fourth place in singles competition. Tyler Edmundson and Shannon Moore won bronze medals in doubles competition. In the unified doubles competition, Heather Pardue and Emani McDuffie won gold medals and Jordan Wiggins and Camryn King won silver medals.
The team was coached by Angela Wegscheider and assisted by Joyce Delano and Ellen Franks.
