Wayne Memorial Hospital won four awards recently during the annual fall conference of the Carolinas Healthcare Public Relations and Marketing Society.

Kids' Page, a newsletter published by the hospital and targeting more than 9,000 Wayne County Public Schools students in grades K-5, was named the 2013 Wallie & Golden Tusk Award Best in Show and also received the 2013 Gold Wallie Award in the category of Collateral External Publications.

Teachers are encouraged to incorporate the publication in their classrooms. It includes articles on topics like exercising and eating healthy, as well as recipes and a regular Q&A column written by "Doc Wayne." It also features a parents page, on which a member of the hospital medical staff provides educational information.

Kids' Page is published three times during the school year. Each edition includes a contest with questions based on information from that issue. Student responses are entered into a drawing and winners receive a Doc Wayne T-shirt and $20 gift card to a sporting goods store.

The two other awards presented to the hospital at the conference were the 2013 Silver Wallie Award for the quarterly LiveWell newsletter in the category Collateral External Publications; and the 2013 Gold Wallie Award for the hospital's Nurses Week ad in the category of Newspaper Single Black and White ad.
