MOUNT OLIVE -- The Mount Olive College Music Department will present a faculty recital Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Mount Olive Assembly Hall, 205 Wooten St.
The event is free.
Dr. Alan Armstrong, cellist, will be joined by adjunct string instructor Christopher Ellis, violinist Dee Braxton-Pellegrino and violist Jane Yeager to perform Schubert's Quartet in A minor, Op. 29 and Beethoven's Quartet in C minor, Op. 18 No. 4.
"I have chosen these two works because of their incredible lyricism, dramatic flair, and emotional appeal," Armstrong said. "The string quartet as a performance ensemble is one of the best conveyors of these attributes because each performer is an equal participant in an ongoing musical conversation.
"At one point, the first violin may have the floor, for example, but then the rest will join in, fervently arguing about the topic, or agreeing whole-heartedly with the others in perfect harmony."
