Wayne County Public School officials confirmed a student at Wayne Middle High Academy was tasered by a school resource officer during a fight Monday.
The student's name was not released because of his age.
WCPS public information officer Ken Derksen said the student was attempting to fight another student and was resisting administrators and the Wayne County Sheriff's Office deputy assigned to the school.
Maj. Tom Effler of the Sheriff's Office also confirmed the incident after speaking with senior resource officer Sgt. Brandi Jones.
"There was an altercation involving three students and the officer could not get one of the boys off the other, so he was forced to use the Taser," Effler said.
As a matter of standard procedure, medics were called out to evaluate the student afterward, Derksen said.
The student did not require transport to the hospital, but was charged with resisting an officer and disorderly conduct, according to the sheriff's office.
