LAGRANGE -- The annual LaGrange Garden Spot Festival featuring entertainment, arts and crafts, food and other activities, will be held Friday and Saturday Sept. 6-7 at the LaGrange Community Park.
Two new events have been added to this year's lineup -- a 5K run and a cornhole tournament.
The Lions Club is sponsoring the 5K Garden Spot Lion Trot at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7. A one-mile fun run will be held as well. All proceeds from the 5K run will go to the LaGrange Lions Club and its mission to help underprivileged children in and around LaGrange with free eye exams and eye glasses.
For registration information, visit www.ecrr.com and click on the events page. The form may be printed out and mailed in or completed online.
Pre-registration for the 5K is $25 and $30 on the day of the run. Pre-registration is $10 for the one-mile fun run and $15 on the day of the event.
For more information on the two events, contact Chris Murphey by phone at 252-414-4223 or send an email to cmurphey@ wynnodom.com or to Kip Sloan at kip@ecrr.com.
Sponsored by the LaGrange Chamber of Commerce, the cornhole tournament will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7.
Registration starts at 7 a.m. near the park area off of Railroad Street. Awards will be presented and refreshments served after the event. The first-place team will win $500, second place $250 and third place, $100. The prize money will be pro-rated for fewer than 40 teams.
The entry fee is $20 per person or $40 per two-person team. Checks should be made payable to the LaGrange Chamber of Commerce with the notation for the cornhole tournament.
For more information contact Heith Harrison at 252-566-3186 or send email to jhharrison@ largrangenc.com.
A raffle will be held for two separate sets of custom-made cornhole boards, one featuring the characters from the A&E television show, "Duck Dynasty" and the other featuring an American flag design.
The cost is $5 for two chances to win the boards.
Entertainment Friday night, Sept. 6 will feature LaGrange's own Spare Change band from 7-11 p.m. The band Backyard Groove will take the stage from 7-11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7.
There will be live entertainment on the stage Saturday afternoon as well. From 12:30-1:30 p.m., the performing arts group Dance Etc. from Kinston will perform. LaGrange native and rap music artist Reggie Rouse will entertain from 1:45-2:45 p.m.
The E.B. Frink Middle School cheerleaders will appear from 3-3:30 p.m.
Currently 36 vendors have signed up for the festival and there is room for more. For more information, vendors should contact Lavaron Howell, LaGrange Chamber of Commerce president, at 252-286-7688.
In the event of inclement weather, the cornhole tournament and the performances by Spare Change and Backyard Groove will be moved to the LaGrange Elementary School gym.
All remaining vendor activities and events will remain at the LaGrange Community Park.
